Netflix’s new number one movie is “one of the worst films ever made”
NetflixNew Netflix movies are already flocking to the platform this year, but one has now been dubbed “one of the worst films ever made.”
Only two months in and Netflix is not pulling any punches when it comes to original content. From Avatar: The Last Airbender and One Day to Griselda and Fool Me Once, the platform has been a smorgasbord of new stories.
On top of this, Netflix has also managed to revive forgotten movies of days gone, with Horrible Bosses 2 and Made in Italy included over the last few weeks.
However, one new Netflix movie hasn’t been such a roaring success, with fans already calling it “one of the worst films ever made.”
Netflix’s new number one movie is “one of the worst films ever made”
It’s bad news for Netflix’s new movie Mea Culpa — created by Tyler Perry — as fans dub it “one of the worst films ever made” just days after release.
Starring singer Kelly Rowland in the lead role, Mea Culpa’s official synopsis reads “A criminal defense attorney takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold, things get hot — and dangerous.”
Released on the platform on February 23, it’s only taken a few days for viewers to give their honest opinions — and they aren’t holding back.
“I gave Mea Culpa a chance yesterday. Probably that’s the worst thing ever, literally the worst movie ever made,” one fan posted on X/Twitter in response to the film’s release.
Others agreed: “Mea Culpa might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen,” and “Mea Culpa has to be one of the worst movies I ever seen. And the movie ain’t even done yet.”
For some, the issue lies with Tyler Perry himself, who has previously been best known for his comedy character Mabel “Madea” Simmons.
“Mea Culpa… 3/10 acting and the storyline sucked to me!” another fan weighed in. “Tyler Perry needs to retire… and the lady that they had played the mother-in-law now he knows better that lady white as snow with a ginger wig like let’s be fr.. the movie seemed rushed he put no thought into it.”
Another stated “Now I have the time… What sort of nonsense ending did this MEA CULPA movie have? Tyler Perry needs new screenwriters.”
Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the new Netflix movie isn’t faring too well either, with just a 14% score on the Tomatometer. Its audience score isn’t far behind, struggling at 39%.
Benjamin Lee at The Guardian summed up: “While it might start out as an erotic thriller, it slows down to a damp relationship drama before meandering its way to a climax hinged on head-scratching twists that make little to zero sense.”
Meal Culpa is now available to stream (we know, but maybe you’ll change your mind).
