Saltburn team reveals what Barry Keoghan drank in bathtub scene
MGMSaltburn was one of the most talked about movies of 2023, and one scene in particular got tongues wagging. Now we’ve got details of what star Barry Keoghan drank in that infamous bathtub sequence.
Written and directed by Emerald Fennell, Saltburn caused a stir at film festivals in 2023, through its story of an Oxford student staying with his rich friend for the summer, and getting up to no good. Especially in the bath.
Dexerto reviewed the film at Fantastic Fest, where we awarded Saltburn 5-stars, and wrote this: “On the surface, it seems to be about class. As we Brits will always be obsessed with class. But there’s also a thriller bubbling away beneath that surface, one that grips from when the film’s clever framing device kicks in, to the ultimately devastating denouement.”
The review also waxed lyrical about Barry Keoghan’s central performance, and we now have more details about his most shocking scene.

While staying at the Saltburn manor, Oliver (Barry Keoghan) spies on his friend Felix (Jacob Elordi) masturbating in the bath. When Felix vacates the space, Oliver enters, and devours what’s left of his bathwater as it slips down the plug-hole.
According to the movie’s production designer Suzie Davies, the liquid that Oliver consumes isn’t nearly as gnarly as it looks. During an interview with Insider, Davies reveals that Keoghan was drinking a mixture of “yogurt and a bit of milk and some water.”
Davies adds: “He did it four times and really went for it. Every one he did was a different kind of slurp. Often, when you film things like that, there are 20 people in the room. It’s quite tense. But the cast can bring something that’s so extraordinary that you can hear a pin drop. So when Barry was doing his stuff, it was amazing. He had no inhibitions.”
The bath scene has taken on a life of its own since Saltburn debuted. Fans have been spoofing it on TikTok. Cocktails have been created in homage to Felix juice. And fans can now sniff what was draining away, thanks to a Jacob Elordi Bath Water scented candle, described as smelling of “rich, soft scents of saffron and bergamot mix with a heady, full-bodied masculine musk to evoke a nighttime bath at Saltburn.”
Saltburn is now streaming on Prime Video, and its probably not one to watch with the folks.
