Selena fans are furious as Oxygen True Crime is set to release a short docuseries with Yolanda Saldivar telling her side of the infamous murder.

One of Latin music’s icons was Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. She was a Mexican-American singer who captured the hearts of thousands and was tagged as the “Queen of Tejano Music.” Nurtured by her father and aided by her siblings, she rose to fame with songs like ‘Como la Flor’.

Selena has gone down as one of the best Latina singers of all time, whose life was cut short due to tragedy. It is one of the most infamous murder cases as Selena’s then-manager Yolanda Saldivar shot the singer dead after Selena discovered she’d been stealing from her for years. Selena was 23 years old.

Oxygen True Crime will release a two-episode docuseries on February 17, with Saldivar herself claiming to tell her side of the story.

Yolanda Saldivar docuseries causes anger among fans

A general consensus from fans over the news of the docuseries has many shaming Oxygen True Crime for allowing Saldivar to tell her story, and vowing to boycott the series.

According to Oxygen True Crime, the docuseries “examines Saldivar’s interpretation of events that ended in Selena’s death and her claims that everything wasn’t as it seemed in the two-part limited documentary series Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them.”

It’s been 30 years since the murder of Selena that rocked the nation, and fans have never healed from it. Selena was on her way to becoming an even bigger star. She had multiple hit records, Grammy wins, and was recently married.

With Saldivar up for parole, the docuseries will include a series of interviews with her from prison. As well as interviews with some of Selena’s family and new never-before-seen documents.

Fans are nowhere near seeing the reason for the docuseries. One commented on X/Twitter, “It’s pointless. I can see something with something like the docuseries for Mckamey Manor, or how they did for some of the more prolific serial killers. Where they aren’t giving them excuses.”

Others call for a boycott, saying, “I’m Boycotting it. Everybody should too. She took a Valuable, Irreplaceable life.”

Another fan called out Oxygen by saying, “Shame on you! This is so unbelievably disrespectful to Selena’s family. Those poor people have had to grieve the loss of their loved one and you’re allowing her killer to have a platform.”

“There is no story to tell. She took advantage of Selena’s kindness, stole money from her, and murdered her in cold blood when she was confronted. I have zero interest in hearing ‘her side of the story’ and whoever gave her the time of day should be ashamed of themselves,” said one fan in agreement.

Selena’s father commented to TMZ, “No one’s gonna believe what she has to say anyway. Everyone knows there’s zero truth to anything that comes out of her mouth.”
