Shogun fans declare it an “absolute masterpiece” after just two episodes

Don’t you just love brilliant TV shows? Now that Shogun has dropped on FX and Hulu, fans are already dubbing it an “absolute masterpiece.”

For those who like to enjoy great TV and movies from the comfort of their own home, 2024 has already been offering up the goods to stream.

We’re not even three months into the year and we’ve already been treated to the likes of Hazbin Hotel, Young Sheldon, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and One Day.

Now that the highly anticipated FX series Shogun has joined the ranks, viewers are already hailing it as an “absolute masterpiece.”

Shogun fans say “absolute masterpiece” after just two episodes

Even though FX series Shogun has only dropped its first two episodes, fans are already convinced that the series is an absolute masterpiece.

Premiering on February 27, the series follows Japan in the year 1600, as Lord Yoshii Toranaga fights for his life as his enemies. The Council of Regents unites against him when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

With 10 episodes in total, the rest of the show is set to drop on a weekly basis, concluding on April 23.

“The new show Shogun looks to be an absolute masterpiece,” one fan posted on Reddit. “After watching the first two episodes I can honestly say I haven’t felt this kind of excitement for a TV show in a long time. It is captivating on the levels of some of the greatest cinema I’ve ever watched. My only complaint is that I wish I had waited for the whole season to come out at once, as waiting another week for the next episode is torturous.”

A second agreed: “First two eps were excellent. Fantastic adaptation of the book so far. I was engaged the entire time,” with a third adding: “The way they’ve adapted such a massive source is fantastic. It’s not scene on scene of the book, but they’ve taken the important beats and weaved that into a compelling TV show. This is how huge books should be adapted.”

However, other Shogun fans disagreed, explaining: “The word ‘masterpiece’ lost all its meaning. I watched the first episode and I’m looking forward to watching the rest but calling every second good series a ‘masterpiece’, even more so after just two episodes (!) is just lunacy.”

It’s good news for Shogun outside of fan opinion too, with critics giving the show a flawless 100% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.
