Is Spider-Man ’98 happening after X-Men ’97?
DisneyThe web-slinger’s X-Men ’97 cameo reignited discussion about a potential Spider-Man ’98 show, inspiring star Christopher Daniel Barnes to speak out.
X-Men ’97’s eighth episode, ‘Tolerance Is Extinction, Pt. 1,’ featured a very brief Spider-Man appearance in a segment filled with other interesting cameos. Though the web-slinger only remained on screen long enough to swing across a rooftop, the moment quickly got the internet buzzing.
Fans of Marvel’s 1990s animated shows already had their fingers crossed for a revival of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which premiered in 1994. Many long for a return that would pick up where the original series left off, akin to X-Men ’97.
Marvel and Disney remain mum on the matter, but 90s Spider-Man voice actor Christopher Daniel Barnes has spoken out. In a recent tweet, Barnes thanked fans for their support and expressed an interest in returning should Marvel green light the much-coveted Spider-Man ’98.
According to the veteran Spider-Man actor, though, he has yet to receive word about such an endeavor. Barnes wrote in part, “I’d obviously love to participate in such an awesome venture! Unfortunately, I haven’t been contacted by anyone regarding this possibility and I also currently have no connection to the X-Men 9 show.”
X-Men ’97 Executive Producer Beau DeMayo confirmed that the Spidey in ‘Tolerance Is Extinction, Pt. 1′ is indeed The Animated Series hero. While this could leave the door open for more crossovers in the future, Barnes’ comment suggests this particular version of the character may not be returning for his own series anytime soon.
