Star Wars fans find new “character” in Revenge of the Sith 19 years later
DisneyEagle-eyed Star Wars fans have unearthed a “hidden character” in Revenge of the Sith’s iconic final fight.
The Star Wars prequel trilogy has undergone a bit of a renaissance in recent years. Time and a poorly received sequel trilogy seem to have softened fans to the initially maligned tale of Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side.
Hayden Christensen himself has even undergone a bit of a redemption arc thanks to his role in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. While some fans of the franchise were always constant, renewed interest has led to new revelations about Star Wars’ prequel trilogy like the fact that notorious villain Sheev Palpatine ‘definitely f**ks’.
So while new tidbits on existing characters are to be expected, one thing no one saw coming was the discovery of an entirely new character in Revenge of the Sith. Well, sort of. Reddit user u/itsjustmonty_ explains it more.
So calling them a character is probably a bit of a stretch but as u/itsjustmonty_ points out, during Anakin and Obi-Wans epic showdown on Mustifar “there’s just a dude there”. Not some random Mustafarian either, an actual human man.
As the original post indicates, just over Anakin’s right shoulder appears to be a random individual. “I couldn’t see it at first and then I almost fell out of my chair! There’s just a guy there!” one Star Wars fan exclaimed.
The prevailing theory around this mystery person is that it is likely a stagehand who showed up in the shot due to a brief VFX failure. It would explain why they look kind of like a ghost.
Some fans are even likening it to the ‘Jeans Guy’ incident from The Mandalorian in which a jeans-wearing crew member made it into a shot on the show. Disney later removed him from the episode in post-production.
The most fun part about all this – aside from the fact that a Star Wars movie can still surprise you after 19 years – is the people trying to canonize the character as “Ju’sta Guui”.
Certainly the most Star Wars-looking pronunciation of ‘Just a Guy’ we’ve ever seen. Keep an eye out for a Wookiepedia page.
