How to watch Starship Troopers – is it streaming?

The new co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studio has become an extraordinary success since its release earlier this month, becoming Sony’s biggest launch on steam and even beating GTA V’s concurrent players record.

The game lets you loose in the galaxy with your squad (or solo) to spread “managed” democracy the Super Earth way: killing giant insects known as Terminids, as well as taking down waves of Automatons.

If the Helldivers‘ plight of citizens with the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility feels familiar, it’s because the game is hugely inspired by Starship Troopers. Here’s where you can stream it.

Where to stream Starship Troopers

The 1997 film was directed by Paul Verhoeven, the man behind RoboCop and True Recall and perhaps cinema’s true master of action satire. But Starship Troopers was rejected harshly upon release, with many criticizing it for endorsing fascism – when it clearly opposes it and continually mocks the ideals of the Federation and its budding, naive recruits.

Fortunately, years after it sank at the box office, it’s been rightly re-appraised as a ’90s classic and one of the best sci-fi films ever made.

According to Television Stats, interest in the movie has surged online in recent weeks – and that has to be thanks to Helldivers 2. Johan Pilestedt, the game’s director, even shared the movie’s renewed popularity, tweeting: “This is incredible!”
