A Suits spinoff might be in the early stages of development, but a new report features details of where the show will be set, and who the main character is.

Even though Suits was canceled in 2019, the last 12 months have been eventful in the world of the legal comedy-drama. As Netflix acquiring the series belatedly turned Suits into the biggest show on the planet.

Topping the Nielsen ratings throughout the summer of 2023 had fans campaigning for a Season 10. And a sequel isn’t currently in the works, there have been rumors of a potential spinoff.

And thanks to a new report, we now know where that might play out, as well as who it will potentially be about.

Suits spinoff reveals first new character

The Suits spinoff will revolve around an entertainment law firm, based in – you guessed it – Los Angeles. That’s according to an article by Hollywood journalist Matthew Belloni in his Puck newsletter (as per ScreenRant).

The update also reveals details about the show’s lead character. Called Erica, she’s “30s, black, SoCal native, and Harvard law alum. She’s jockeying to be made Head of Entertainment. She’s great at closing clients but struggles elsewhere. Smarter than everyone.”

The description compares Erica to Rachel Zane, the character played by Meghan Markle from Season 1 to Season 7 of the original Suits.

That’s the most we’ve heard about the spinoff since last October, when The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Suits showrunner Aaron Korsh was developing something that wasn’t a spinoff or sequel.

As per that THR report: “The potential series would feature new characters and a new setting, similar to other multi-show franchises (whether there would be any crossover potential with the original is a question for much further down the road).”

Spinoff could feature Suits star

Suits star Patrick J. Adams – who played Mike Ross in the show – was recently asked if he’d be willing to cameo in any future spinoff. And it sounds like he’s keen.

“If I got the phone call, I’m ready to suit up again,” Adams told Variety during an interview at this year’s Golden Globes (via The Hollywood Reporter). “I love the show, I love the character and I loved working with all these people.”

As for his co-star Gabriel Macht, he didn’t talk cameos, but did say that he’s grateful that the show has found a new audience: “It’s an amazing thing. We had some great success when the show was on and all over the world, there were people downloading it, pirate downloading it. And then at a certain point, Netflix came in and said, ‘Why don’t we put this out there?’ And it’s just got incredible eyes and we’re very grateful for it.”
