While a Suits reunion is still in rocky territory, a spinoff is not too far away — but one star says the show is set in a “different universe.”

Things have never been more up in the air in the Suits fandom than they are now. Suits Season 10 definitely isn’t happening, a cast reunion looks hopeful but isn’t confirmed, and a spinoff — Suits L.A — is on its way, though nobody knows what to expect.

One thing is for sure though: it’s increasingly unlikely that the bulk of the original Suits cast won’t be in the spinoff. Why? Because it’s a “completely different universe,” according to star Gina Torres.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Torres explained why her character, Jessica Pearson, definitely won’t be seen.

“No, that’s a completely different universe that Jessica is not a part of,” Torres said, adding, “[Jessica is doing] whatever she wants to be doing!”

When we last saw her, Jessica was the former managing partner of Pearson Specter Litt, leaving the show as a series regular in Season 6. She also starred in her own spinoff (Pearson), moving from New York to Chicago.

Given that Suits L.A. will be set where its name suggests, the two were unlikely to cross paths as it is.

So far, the Suits spinoff is about “Ted Black (Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.

“All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.

“Fifteen years ago, Ted joined forces with his old buddy, Stuart Lane (McDermitt), to build an L.A. law firm, Black Lane Law, that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.”

Fans also know that the spinoff is set in the same timeline as the original Suits series, which is possibly what makes Torres’ “universe” comments so confusing. Amazingly, only a pilot of Suits L.A. is guaranteed, with a full series still not greenlit yet.
