Sydney Sweeney pokes fun at disastrous Madame Web reception
SonyMadame Web star Sydeny Sweeney poked fun at the film’s terrible audience reception during her SNL monologue.
Sony Pictures seemed to have a Spider-Man-type universe in their minds when creating Venom and Morbius, but it seems like that dream will never come to fruition.
Their latest outing in this space — Madame Web — completely fell flat with audiences as critics hailed it as awful while every day movie goers memed it to death.
The awful reception to the movie is an ongoing joke online, to the point that one of the film’s stars Sydney Sweeney poked fun at the movie’s reviews during her SNL monologue.
Sweeney jokes about no one seeing Madame Web
The actress recently hosted this week’s Saturday Night Live where she threw a witty joke at Madame Web’s poor audience reception.
Sweeney played Julia Cornwall, an awkward teenage girl who is being hunted by the movie’s villian, Ezekiel Sims, because she slated to become one of the three Spider-Women who kill him.
“You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria. You definitely did not see me in Madame Web,” Sweeney joked.
Madame Web’s opening box office weekend was a complete disaster, as the movie’s grossed $15 million was even lower than Morbius’ $39 million box office earnings.
Plus, the film received an embarrassing 17% critic Rotten Tomatoes score when it first premiered and that number has lowered significantly at it currently sits at 13% with critics.
Despite the poor audience reception and its cast making fun of it, there is still hope for a Madame Web sequel, which lead actress Dakota Johnson has confirmed that she would return for if asked.
