Terrifier 3 beats The Passion of the Christ in one gory area

The Passion of the Christ might not be the first movie that comes to mind when you think of Terrifier 3, but the crew revealed to Dexerto a rather gory connection between the two.

Although Damien Leone’s upcoming horror movie is dropping over Halloween, Terrifier 3 is a festive flick, promising a darker tone and plenty of brutality from Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) in his Santa era. 

If it’s even half as brutal as Terrifier 2 (and that bedroom scene), we’re in for a wild ride. And, according to the crew, we can expect even more from the threequel; more kills, more backstory, and more blood. 

In fact, Dexerto caught up with Terrifier set designer Olga Turka, who revealed that the sheer volume of blood used left Christien Tinsley and his makeup effects team at Tinsley Studio shocked.

This is quite the feat given Tinsley worked on the makeup for Mel Gibson’s R-rated biblical epic The Passion of the Christ, which sparked controversy upon its release for its violent brutality. 

But Terrifier 3 went one step further, using the most blood the team has experienced “by far”.

“What is just really neat was hearing Christian Tinsley and his team say by far this was the most blood they’ve ever used,” Olga told us.

“So just seeing their eyes bulge when they were saying that, my jaw dropped because it was, you know, such an honor.”

Olga went on to say that seeing the creation of Terrifier movies in person is the “coolest thing,” and that they went through “gallons and gallons” of fake blood “like it’s water” – albeit “expensive water.”

“I just love learning how detail-oriented Damien is in the viscosity of the blood, the color of the blood,” she continued. “Just watching the FX team work with all kinds of apparatus to create the effects they’re trying to create is so cool.”

Adding to the conversation, producer Phil Falcone – who got involved in the practical effects of all the Terrifier movies – said Damien’s proved him wrong on many occasions when it comes to the gore. 

“Like when he has blood squirting out for hours, I’m like, ‘God damn, ain’t that much blood in a body.’ He goes, ‘Don’t worry, you’re going to love it,’” he joked.

Phil went on to tell Dexerto that while he’s not sure of the actual amount of fake blood used, it’s a “large, large, large amount.”

Like Terrifier and Terrifier 2, the third flick is made using practical effects again. And judging by these comments, it’s going to be one bloody Halloween.
