The Chosen Season 5 release date, trailer, cast & plot details
The ChosenIf you’re waiting on a The Chosen Season 5 release date, we have good news: we know when it’s coming out, so here’s everything we know about the new episodes.
It’s been a hell of a year for The Chosen. Before fans could watch Season 4 on streaming, it premiered in cinemas and took the show’s total box office haul to nearly $60 million worldwide.
Now, the wait is on for the fifth season – and from the leaked scenes, it’s going to be incredibly emotional. After all, Jesus’ story is a ticking clock, and we’re fast approaching the events of the Passion.
Jenkins has been keeping fans up to date with The Chosen Season 5’s progress, and he just gave us our biggest update yet.
The Chosen Season 5 release date?
The Chosen Season 5 (titled ‘Last Supper’) will be released in cinemas in three parts during a four-week run, starting with Part 1 (Episodes 1-2) on March 27, 2025, in the US and Canada.
Viewers in other countries (the UK, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, India, etc) will need to wait until April 10, where cinemas are expected to have a similar release schedule. It’ll come to streaming later in 2025, but no specific date has been given.
The show’s creator made the announcement during an October 27, 2024, livestream, confirming that it’ll arrive in cinemas and stay in theaters through the Easter holidays.
“It is coming to you early April 2025. I don’t exactly if it’s the first or second week just yet. We’re working out the details. But it will be early April,” he said.
“It is coming to theatres, the entire season, not exactly all at once, but you will have a chance during the theatrical release to at some point, spend an entire day watching the entire season.”
Production kicked off on Season 5 in April earlier this year, with the shoot wrapping in September.
The Chosen Season 5 teaser trailer
The first trailer for The Chosen Season 5 was released on November 25, 2024:
Who’s in The Chosen Season 5 cast?
Jonathan Roumie will (obviously) return as Jesus in The Chosen Season 5, with the cast largely unchanged in the new episodes.
The Chosen Season 5 cast also includes:
- Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter
- Paras Patel as Matthew
- Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene
- Noah James as Andrew
- George H. Xanthis as John
- Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James
- Jordan Walker Ross as Little James
- Giavani Cairo as Thaddeus
- Joey Vahedi as Thomas
- Alaa Safi as Simon the Zealot
- Austin Reed Alleman as Nathanael
- Reza Diako as Philip
- Vanessa Benavente as Mother Mary
- Luke Dimyan as Judas
- Lara Silva as Eden
Speaking to Matt Fradd, Roumie spoke about filming the new season. “It’s gonna be tough for people, it’s the beginning of the end,” he said.
“I’m just kind of coming out of this experience, so I don’t want to complain too much, but I’m exhausted… it was the most difficult two weeks of my career and spiritually, there was a lot of anxiety.”
Roumie cited a quote from Robert Powell, who starred in 1977’s Jesus of Nazareth. He said Christ was “unplayable… how do you wrap your mind around Jesus? I only know what it’s like to be human and woefully so and failingly so, so all I can do is bring the utmost of my humanity and intention and desire to serve Christ… and try to understand, through the help of the Holy Spirit, and ask Jesus, ‘What did you experience here?’
What will happen in The Chosen Season 5?
The Chosen Season 5 will chronicle the events of Holy Week, leading straight into the events of the Passion and Jesus’ crucifixion.
That means we’re getting the cleansing of the temple, the Last Supper, and Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, and much more. “These are all things that are not spoilers. They’re in the there in the Gospels,” Roumie told Movieguide.
“What’s cool, what I’m really excited about is not just the portrayal of those moments but what would it have been like to be there? What would the disciples have thought when they watch their Rabbi who has the opportunity to unite the people?
“At the beginning of the week, they’re all singing his praises literally and this is a chance to unite the people and potentially do what they’ve expected the Messiah to do forever, which is overthrow their oppressors — what would you do when within a couple days, He not only doesn’t do that, he does the opposite?”
In the tense Season 4 finale, Jesus and his apostles tried to comfort Lazarus’ grieving sisters, Martha and Mary. The group then headed to Lazarus’ tomb, where Jesus performed a miracle and raised him from the dead.
Things took a dark turn when the Sanhedrin, led by the High Priest, demanded that Jesus be handed over to the Romans to be executed.
Season 5 can only end with betrayal. In an earlier live stream, Jenkins noted, “This is when the plot thickens and Lazarus will be hiding because of what happened in Season 4. We are covering, in Season 5, the most important week in history. Season 6 is the most important day in history.”
