Is The Emoji Movie 2 happening?
YODA BBY ABY: FacebookIs The Emoji Movie 2 actually happening in 2024, or are we all free to do something better with our time – like scream into a pillow?
Some films are so bad they’re great. The Room is the ultimate go-to example, a masterpiece of moviemaking absurdity that does almost everything wrong – yet, it feels so right.
Others are viscerally, almost offensively bad. That’s where The Emoji Movie comes in, a strong contender for the worst big-budget animated movie of all time. It’s a soul-crushing catastrophe, lacking any merit or message that could even justify its existence.
So, you can imagine the sheer horror at learning The Emoji Movie 2 may be in development – and we’re here to answer if the rumors are true.
Is The Emoji Movie 2 coming out in 2024?
The Emoji Movie 2 isn’t happening, nor is any sequel in development – thank the heavens.
YODA BBY ABY (the same page responsible for rumors about Three Granddads and a Baby and Police Academy: The New Class) recently shared a fake poster for the sequel that also claimed the movie was set to hit cinemas in May this year – but it’s not, because it’s not real.
“Get ready for a wild ride with ‘The Emoji Movie 2’! When Emojis break into the real world, chaos ensues as humanity sees them as a threat. Join the colorful characters on a hilarious and thrilling quest to return home, in theaters this May from Sony Pictures Animation Studios,” the caption reads.
The Emoji Movie was ripped apart upon its release in 2017, with its Rotten Tomatoes sitting at just 6%. Yet, likely via morbid curiosity and an absence of other kids’ movies to see at that time, it still grossed more than $200 million and became a commercial success.
However, on this occasion, money wasn’t enough to green-light a sequel. The internet would have you believe that several sequels have been in development over the years, including “Smiler’s Revenge” and “The Second and Final Part”, the latter of which was supposedly released on December 20 last year – it wasn’t.
There’s also a petition to “get Sony to make The Emoji Movie 2” that’s garnered nearly 4,000 signatures. “The Emoji Movie was a life-changing experience for me and many others. It was a good movie full of wonderful animation, and good life lessons for the future generation that needs more Emoji Movies to grow as people, including discovering how to make multiple faces and not being a boring bitch all the time,” it reads.
Thankfully, it’s highly unlikely any version of The Emoji Movie 2 will ever see the light of day.
