The Fantastic Four’s main villain won’t be Doctor Doom
20th Century StudiosA new era of Fantastic Four has been in the works for some time, with the official announcement of its main cast revealing that the comic book character Doctor Doom won’t be the central villain this time.
Fans have seen two iterations of The Fantastic Four, one that became a cult classic and one that flopped. This time around, the official cast has been revealed to star Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Vanessa Kirby. With the main hero’s cast, what about the central villain?
For as long as comic book fans can remember, Doctor Doom was their formidable foe and archnemesis to Reed Richards. In the 2005 movie, he was a millionaire and fiancé of Susan Storm who backed Reed’s venture into space. The blast that turned the characters in the Fantastic Four instead turned him into a villain. Doctor Doom has a long history with the characters.
But Doctor Doom won’t be the focus point for the upcoming new Fantastic Four movie as another villain is reported to take on the beloved group of heroes.
Doctor Doom will appear in the new movie
According to The InSneider, Doctor Doom is reported to appear in the final moments of Fantastic Four, but not as the central villain. His diminished role could make room for a more substantial story in Secret Wars. It will be the sixth Avengers film, set to be released in 2027, and will have the Avengers face a cosmic threat to rival Thanos.
For now, there are no reports of an official casting for Doctor Doom. But the question remains on who will be taking on Reed Richards, Susan and Johnny Storm, and Ben as the central villain for The Fantastic Four. According to The InSneider, Galactucus will be their enemy.
Galactus is known as the Devourer of Worlds and is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. He’s a cosmic entity who devours the world to retain his life force. Instead of a villain, he’s seen as a cosmic force who creates needed balance in the universe. Using the Power Cosmic, he has vast energy manipulation abilities, including controlling matter, energy, time, and space.
The character made an appearance in the post-credit scene of The Eternals as an entire world is devoured and from the clouds appears the silhouette of Galactus having taken in new energy. For the Fantastic Four movie, InSchneider revealed Javier Bardem is being eyed to play the role.
According to the report, there are some scheduling conflicts as Bardem is committed to another movie with Brad Pitt. Some have even questioned if Henry Cavill is in the running for the role, but they are untrue. The Fantastic Four will also introduce another well-known character, the Silver Surfer.
The character appeared in the second Fantastic Four movie in 2007. With Galactus as the reported villain of the new movie, it makes sense for Silver Surfer to appear. After all, the Silver Surfer is one of Galactus’ servants, venturing across the universe looking for worlds for him to consume. For now, casting for the Silver Surfer is still ongoing.
