Former The Mandalorian co-star Gina Carano is suing Disney over her firing from the show. The ex-MMA fighter is having her legal bill covered by Elon Musk.

Back in 2021, Gina Carano was fired from her role as Cara Dune in the hit Disney+ original The Mandalorian for a series of social media posts comparing herself to a victim of the Holocaust. The comparison was made by Carano regarding perceived persecution for her conservative political leanings.

Prior to the posts that got her fired, Carano had landed herself in hot water for tweets that belittled the use of pronouns and alleged fraud during the 2020 election. In the time since, theories that Snow White’s Rachel Zegler was responsible for Carano’s firing have emerged.

Initially covered by The Hollywood Reporter, Carano has now decided to take legal action against Disney and sue for discrimination and wrongful termination. One of the conditions of the suit is that Carano be recast in The Mandalorian.

In the court documents, Carano alleges that Disney employed discriminatory tactics and fired her based solely on her political standing. “My words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt-right-wing extremist,” Carano declared in a statement on X.

The suit claims that Disney engaged in harassment and defamation of Carano over her views on topics like preferred pronouns and the Black Lives Matter movement. It also includes assertions that Disney’s actions toward fellow cast members on the other side of the political aisle were not meted out equally. Specifically mentioning Pedro Pascal’s comparison of Trump to Hitler.

As part of a previous promise made by Elon Musk regarding the defense of people “unfairly treated” for the content they post on X, the company is assisting Carano by aiding her with legal costs.

“As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination,” X’s head of business operations Joe Benarroch said in a statement.

For her part, Carano has offered thanks to Musk and the wider X Corp for extending their assistance.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude & thank you to Elon Musk and X for giving me an opportunity to bring my case to light,” she said.
