The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live focuses on the reunion of two key characters from the original series, but fans think they’ve spotted a clue for another major return.

While Rick and Michonne are running things in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, fans are keeping their eyes peeled for other familiar faces. So far, we’ve had a great new villain and plenty of memorable supporting characters. But for some, that’s not enough.

The Ones Who Live isn’t set in familiar territory. Instead, it sees Rick struggling to come to terms with his new role in the CRM, and Michonne’s long-winded journey to track him down.

While there’s no real reason for old characters to make a return in the newest spinoff, fans are still on the hunt for clues. And they might have just found a major one that could mark the return of a very powerful figure in TWD universe: King Ezekiel.

The Walking Dead fans find possible clue for Ezekiel’s return in The Ones Who Live

Over on The Walking Dead subreddit, one fan posted an image from Khary Payton (the actor behind Ezekiel)’s Facebook, noting that he’s sporting the familiar Ezekiel hairstyle. They then suggested that this could mean he’s reprising the role in The Ones Who Live.

Khary Payton's Facebook post

“Khary Payton just posted this on his Facebook page (official or not, I do not know), but considering TOWL has just started and everyone is hoping that Rick and Michonne will go home, it’s just too much of a coincidence that Khary Payton has his “Ezekiel” hairstyle back. Maybe I’m just reading into it too much, but it would be nice to see Ezekiel,” they wrote.

Other fans were quick to agree. After all, Ezekiel goes on to become one of the leading figures in TWD, as they point out.

“I don’t think his hair means much, as he wore a wig for the whole show,” another user wrote. “But Ezekiel coming back at some point is inevitable as he leads the Commonwealth now.”

Another added: “He’s the leader of the Commonwealth so it’s plausible.”

“If anyone returns back to the main Commonwealth city or the Virginia communities, he’d be the guy at the top,” one comment said. “If the CRM finally makes contact with the Commonwealth, Ezekiel would be the one to sign any agreements with them.”

“I mean, he’s the leader of Commonwealth now right?” another agreed. “If Commonwealth returns and has some kind of conflict with the CRM then he got to return.”

By all accounts, that Facebook profile appears legitimate. And while there could be plenty of reasons for that post, it does seem like suspicious timing (just after The Ones Who Live has premiered) to post something so illusive. Still, there are five episodes remaining in the newest TWD show, so anything’s possible!
