TWD’s Norman Reedus reveals his dealbreaker condition for doing Daryl Dixon spin-off
AMCThe Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus admits that he had one major condition he presented to the creators before agreeing to sign on to the Daryl Dixon spin-off series.
The Walking Dead is one of the biggest TV franchises of all time with a flagship show spanning over 10 seasons and multiple spin-offs to boot. This year alone, the spin-off Maggie and Negan show aired as well as the first season of Daryl Dixon.
While bringing Norman Reedus back to the world to lead his own seemed like a no-brainer, Reedus himself has some reservations about the series.
During the most recent episode of the Lipps Service podcast, host Scott Lipps sat down with Reedus to talk about the Daryl Dixon show. During their conversation, the actor opened up about his conditions for agreeing to take part.
“They asked me, hey would you be interested in doing this show in France and I said f*** yeah let’s do that but I need all new writers. So they got rid of the Showrunner and they got rid of the writers because I wanted it to be a fresh start.”
And while this may seem like extreme measures to take given that Daryl Dixon is still part of the extended Walking Dead universe, Reedus had good reason for wanting a completely fresh start and new direction for the spin-off.
“The show, a lot of it is in French. So we got French writers, there are certain things in the stories that only French people know. I didn’t want to go to France and wear a béraut and eat a baguette and be in an American show. I wanted it to be their show.”
This risk seemingly paid off, with Daryl Dixon being received positively by fans and critics alike. A second season was already greenlit and set to bring back another veteran character Carol back after actor Melissa McBride made a cameo in the final episode of the first season.
