Unfrosted is getting slammed for “cheap” Mad Men cameo

Jerry Seinfeld’s new movie, Unfrosted, has dropped on Netflix — and it includes a Mad Men cameo not everyone is happy about.

Despite the lengthy list of stars who climbed aboard for Seinfeld‘s Pop Tarts tale Unfrosted, nobody could have predicted that this is how we’d see Don Draper again. But alas, here we are.

Just under a decade since the last episode of Mad Men aired, Jon Hamm and John Slattery showed up in Seinfeld’s new movie (which released on May 3 on Netflix) as their iconic characters, Don Draper and Roger Sterling.

The cameo in question comes when Bob Cabana and the rest of the Kellogg’s crew enlist the help of some suave advertising men. You can watch it for yourself below:

Cue the return of Hamm and Slattery, and a mini reunion for one of the most successful TV shows of the past two decades. But not everyone was happy to see them. In fact, many viewers had pretty negative reactions to the scene, for more reasons than one. Namely, they’re furious that a show with the quality of Mad Men would return in this lackluster manner. (For the record, Unfrosted currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 42%.)

“It’s very cool that in America you can create what is arguably one of the greatest TV dramas of all time filled with complex characters, gripping storytelling, and emotional depth, and then a decade later someone will turn it into a cheap joke to sell breakfast cereal,” said one comment on X.

Another wrote: “When any iconic show ends, its actors should be forced to sign a contract that stipulates they cannot reprise their characters in things like Mt Dew ads or Pop Tart movies.”

“An underrated thing about Jerry Seinfeld complaining about how much the movie business has changed etc is that he has unlimited creative freedom and can bankroll anything he wants, and he basically made one of those low effort Scary Movie-style parody movies,” said a third.

Another comment said: “You haven’t made a really great show until everyone involved in it insists on spending the rest of their careers pissing on and away its legacy in the name of the dullest jokes imaginable.”

Others were also confused, and ultimately, irritated by Netflix’s treatment of the scene. Apparently, prior to the film’s release, Netflix was keeping a stern check on reviewers to prevent the cameo from being leaked. However, they themselves released the clip on the day that Unfrosted dropped on the streaming service, which has led many to ask… why?

As one X user wrote: “Legit insane that they’d give this away on the DAY that the movie comes out, before almost anyone has a chance to watch it.”

“Is this the cameo Netflix was insistent on reviewers keeping secret? That they’ve just posted to the world on the day of the film’s release?” said another.
