5 big predictions for what will happen in Invincible Season 3
Prime VideoIt’s a great time to be a fan of people in spandex punching each other, as Invincible Season 3 is nearly here.
Fans will undoubtedly remember that Invincible Season 2 ended with Mark in a particularly dark place after “killing” Angstrom Levy. And that’s got quite a few people wondering what’s next for the invulnerable hero.
Thankfully, our team of Invincible experts are smarter than the Mauler Twins and Robot combined. So, we think we can predict with 99.9% accuracy what’s going to happen to our blue-and-yellow blur.
How? Well, each season has adapted roughly 20 or so issues of the Invincible comics, which means, in theory, we can look to the books to learn what the future holds for our heroes. The only wrinkle in the plan? Amazon keeps making changes. That’s why there’s a 0.01% chance what you’re about to read is a load of rubbish, but hey, at least it’ll be entertaining rubbish! Warning, (possible) spoilers ahead!
What will happen in Invincible Season 3?
Before we get to our predictions, there are a few things we know are going to happen courtesy of the Season 3 trailer. Doc Seismic is going to return, and in the chaos, it seems like Cecil is going to use his ReAnimen. When Mark learns what Cecil’s been doing, they get into a fight, and Invincible quits the Global Defense Agency. On his own, Mark will start training his younger half-brother to be his sidekick (Kid Omni-Man), and, oh yeah, Mark will get that new blue suit we’ve all been waiting for.
Omni-Man and Allen the Alien team-up
The Invincible Season 3 trailer revealed that Nolan and Allen are still trapped in a Viltrumite prison. Nolan seems like a broken man, but Allen is determined to break him out of his funk.
Well, in Invincible #45, Allen finally manages to get through to Omni-Man, and the pair team up to escape their captors. This happening on the show is pretty much a no-brainer, as Nolan and Allen’s actions after they escape are key to Mark’s further adventures.
Angstrom Levy is alive and building a League of Evil Marks
When we last saw Angstrom, Mark used his fists to turn his over-ripe melon into a gory daiquiri. Mark rather fairly presumed this savage beating had killed the villain, but he forgot the golden rule of supervillains… they’re never really dead.
Yes, in the comics, it’s revealed that Angstrom is, in fact, alive and building an army of evil Invincibles in the hope of getting revenge on the Mark we know and love. It seems extremely likely that we’ll see the cartoon adapt this storyline at some point, and the seeds of that will be sown this season.
New villains
You hardly need to have been born with the power of foresight to know that Season 3 will introduce some new villains for Mark to punch. Arguably, though – outside of Angstrom, the League of Evil Marks, and the Viltrumites – the most significant will be Powerplex.
Powerplex, real name Scott Duvall, was an ordinary guy with a family until the day Omni-Man revealed himself to Mark. In the ensuing Chaos, Scott’s sister was killed, and he swore vengeance. Classic stuff, really.
Sadly, with Omni-Man currently in space jail, he turns his rage on Mark and tries to kill him using stolen tech. While Powerplex never quite reaches the level of nemesis, he’s a cool character with a compelling backstory that’ll probably end up breaking out hearts.
Invincible War
Ok, I’m not sure about this one, to be honest. Remember that League of Evil Marks? Well, in the books, Angstrom eventually uses that army of Invincibles to invade Earth. Mark and a bunch of other superheroes from across Image Comics (the publisher who prints the Invincible comics), including Spawn, Savage Dragon, and Youngblood, fight to save the world.
It’s pure comic nonsense and every bit as brilliant as you’d expect. Here’s the rub, though: I don’t think Amazon has the license to all the other Image characters, so it’s very likely that if they do adapt this story, we’re going to see a very different Invincible War play out. Presumably, it will only involve the Guardians of the Globe and the other unaffiliated heroes fighting Mark’s variants. Or maybe they’ll do what they did with Spidey and have a suspiciously similar substitute turn up? Like Hell-Man, Grumpy Lizard, and Oldplasma?
Conquest
Invincible has been teasing Conquest since Season 1, and it seems very likely that he’s going to appear again this time around.
But who is Conquest? Well, like Nolan, he’s an extremely powerful Viltrumite and a savage warrior. In the comics, he turns up after the Invincible War to see if Mark has finally conquered Earth. When it turns out he hasn’t, the pair have a fight that makes Nolan and Mark’s battle look like a simple family argument. It only ends when it seems like Conquest kills Atom Eve (don’t worry, she gets better), and Mark uses his head to turn Conquest’s face into mashed potato.
