The 96th Academy Awards is the biggest night of the year for film lovers, but where are the Oscars held? Here’s what you need to know.

The Oscars red carpet is the iconic setting of the biggest night in Hollywood. The best films of 2023 are being celebrated tonight at the 96th Academy Awards, with films like Oppenheimer and Poor Things expected to sweep.

But you won’t just catch the likes of Cillian Murphy and Emma Stone at the Oscars tonight — being the most opulent night in cinema, you’ll often catch industry legends watching it all unfold, too. With Jimmy Kimmel hosting this year’s awards (yes, again), those who tune-in each year will be waiting eagerly to see their favorite movies of the last few months get their flowers.

But as for the long-running and historical ceremony itself, many might not know where it all goes down. With that in mind, here’s where the Oscars are being held this year.

Where are the 2024 Oscars being held?

This year, the Oscars are being held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.

This has been the venue for the Oscars since 2001, and was formally known as the Kodak Theatre. It’s a spectacular venue, which you can actually visit when the ceremony isn’t taking place.

In fact, if you head down the walkway (where the red carpet usually lays), you can see the Best Picture winners across the years engraved onto the columns. They even have spaces reserved for future winners, with enough room to last until 2071!

Despite being considered a prime location for the ceremony these days, the Oscars haven’t always been held at the Dolby Theatre. In fact, it’s moved around quite a bit. Between 1988-2001, the awards show alternated between using the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Shrine Auditorium.

As for the very first Oscars ceremony (which took place in 1929), you’d have gone to the Roosevelt Hotel if you were up for an award. But you wouldn’t have been there for very long, since the first ceremony only took about 15 minutes!
