Wizards of Waverly Place sequel confirmed with Selena Gomez
DisneyYes, you heard correctly – a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel has been confirmed, starring Selena Gomez. Here’s what we know so far.
One of the most successful Disney Channel shows to date is Wizards of Waverly Place – and now it’s getting a sequel.
Starring Only Murders In The Building actress Selena Gomez, the adored show revolved around siblings who worked at their family’s restaurant and also happened to be wizards hiding their real identities from the world. The series managed to go on for four seasons and resulted in two movies, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie and Alex vs. Alex.
According to new reports, it’s now set to make its triumphant return with a sequel that includes Gomez – here’s everything we know.
Wizards of Waverly Place sequel confirmed with Selena Gomez
According to a new report from Deadline, hit Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place will be revived with a sequel, starring original cast member Selena Gomez.
Alongside Gomez as Alex Russo, David Henrie will be reprising the role of Justin Russo as a series regular. They will both be joined by new cast members Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
Though no other cast details have been officially confirmed yet, we do know that the series will be courtesy of writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who are currently best known for their work on Raven’s Home.
We also have a brief synopsis to go on, with Deadline reporting: “[The series] picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
Unsurprisingly, fans of the original series cannot wait to get stuck into the sequel.
“Okay, I didn’t think this would ever happen… I loved this show as a kid so much, hope they deliver,” one fan posted on X/Twitter in response to the news, with a second adding, “LETS GOO! THE BEST DISNEY CHANNEL SHOW!”
Having said that, others already have reservations about whether the magic – pun intended – of the original can be recreated.
“Justin giving up his wizard powers, that sounds… strange, but I’m absolutely gonna watch cuz I love this series, I wonder who his wife is in the series, it’s been so long so I can’t remember what happened to Juliet,” one fan mused.
“Another watered-down sequel that no one asked for. The only person returning is most likely the guy with the third leg,” commented another.
No filming or production details have been revealed for the series yet, with Gomez’s other hit Only Murders In The Building Season 4 also on the cards.
