Which Yellowstone character would take you on the nicest date?

Jakob Barnes
John, Beth, and Jamie Dutton from Yellowstone

The world of Yellowstone isn’t particularly renowned for romance, but that doesn’t mean that the inhabitants of Montana aren’t looking for love. So, let’s take a look at who would treat you right, and which Yellowstone characters would be a nightmare to date.

By this point, we feel like we know the main players of Yellowstone pretty well. They’re like close friends or those wild family members you see once every few months. But what if you were to get romantically involved with one of the Yellowstone characters?

There’s probably plenty of fan fiction out there on that topic, but we’re not going to dive that deep into the fantasy today. Instead, we’ll take a look at some of the best (and worst) characters you could go on a date with from the Taylor Sheridan TV show.

From worst to best, here are 10 Yellowstone characters and the type of evening you could expect from them.

Jamie Dutton

Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone looking into the distance

This snivelling little snake would spend the whole evening moaning about how he feels like an outsider in the Dutton family, and would probably be more interested in recruiting you to his next hair-brained scheme to bring down the Yellowstone empire than showing you a good time.

Jamie quite simply doesn’t know how to have fun. He only knows how to wallow in self-pity, and that is not the energy you need in your life.

Summer Higgins

Summer Higgins in Yellowstone

There’s nothing wrong with veganism and standing up for what is right. But the problem with Summer is, as admirable as her intentions may be, she just doesn’t know when to stop banging on about her beliefs and enjoy life for what it is.

Take Summer to a restaurant, and she would be quizzing the waiter about where every bit of food came from, and she would probably try to get the place shut down before your dessert even arrives.

Kayce Dutton

Kayce Dutton

Kayce has the potential to be a really good date, actually. The only problem is he is such a wife-guy that if he were to go on a date with anyone else, he would probably spend the whole evening talking about Monica and how he wants his family back.

There’s no doubt Kayce is a sweet guy, but you’d always be second best in his eyes. Don’t compromise.

John Dutton

Kevin Costner as John Dutton in Yellowstone

One thing’s for sure, if you go out with John Dutton, you’re going to have the keys to Montana practically in your pocket and be able to do just about anything you want. Helicopter ride? Go for it. Get the best seat in the fanciest restaurant? Consider it done.

The only catch is John usually only has one thing on his mind, and that’s getting you into bed. He may be the king of the Dutton family tree, but he’s also a bit of a lothario. If it’s a long-term commitment you’re looking for, John is not your man.

Date rating: 5/10

Lloyd Pierce

Lloyd Pierce

Lloyd is an absolute sweetheart (most of the time). He’s old school, so you know he’s going to act like a gentleman and will probably pay for the whole date. He’s also been in the ranching game for long enough to provide plenty of fascinating stories from the bunkhouse, too.

The only problem is that Lloyd can be very jealous and has a short temper. If anyone tries to come over to your table and serenade you, their guitar would get smashed to pieces, that’s for sure.

Date rating: 6/10

Beth Dutton

Beth Dutton in Yellowstone

A date with Beth Dutton would not be one for the faint of heart. You might get blind-drunk, take a few punches, and end up sleeping in a field somewhere, but you’d definitely have a lot of fun if you dared to go out with Beth for the night.

If you can match her energy, you’d have a real keeper, and she would remain fiercely loyal to you forever. But, get on the wrong side of Beth, and you’re a dead man walking.

Date rating: 7/10

Jimmy Hurdstrom

Jefferson Hurdstrom as Jefferson White in Yellowstone

If you’d rather play it safe, Jimmy is the way to go. He’s a simple fella who enjoys nothing more than a spot of rodeo, and he’s so innocent and sweet that he doesn’t really possess the capability to be deceptive or cruel.

Jimmy doesn’t have much experience with relationships, so he’s quick to jump into serious commitment, which means you’ll probably be getting a proposal by the third date. But that security is exactly what some people want, and you’re guaranteed to have a smile on your face if you spend time with Jimmy.

Date rating: 7/10

Rip Wheeler

Rip Wheeler in Yellowstone

Rip is the kinda guy who doesn’t do things by half. Get on his wrong side, and he will put you in the ground, quite literally. But, if you’re his friend (or lover), he will do anything to protect you and make you happy.

Sounds like all the makings of a great date and a loving relationship, as Beth has found out throughout the course of the show. Once you break down that tough exterior, Rip is essentially just a big, loveable softie.

Date rating: 8/10

Lynelle Perry

Lynelle Perry from Yellowstone

A bit of a left-field one this, but think about it: Lynelle has all the freedom and political clout of John, and then some.  More importantly, though, she’s not some sleazeball looking to get you into bed. Lynelle is sharp, funny, and incredibly down-to-earth, but she also doesn’t stand for any.

So, if you want luxury food, fancy hotels, and the opportunity to travel across the US with a beautiful lady who will make you laugh and keep you on your toes, Lynelle is your woman.

Date rating: 9/10

Gator

Gator from Yellowstone

The underrated hero of the whole Yellowstone timeline, Gator is the personal chef of the Dutton family (and an actual chef in real life, too), so you know already that you’re going to be kept well-fed at all times with top-notch grub. Forget lavish restaurants; how about a cozy night in with the buffet of your dreams? The route to anyone’s heart is through their stomach, after all.

Plus, he’s well-in with the Duttons, so he could probably call in any favor you want, too. But the most important thing is Gator is just a total sweetheart who would do anything for anyone and just wants people to be happy. He is the perfect date, and someone needs to lock him down for life.

So, there you have it: if you want to have a nice date in Yellowstone, stay away from the Duttons themselves, and look for the more modest supporting characters who will treat you right.
