Yellowstone studio developing JonBenet Ramsey drama

The producers of Yellowstone and its many spinoffs are pivoting to true crime by developing a drama about the death of JonBenet Ramsey.

101 Studios has enjoyed huge success with Yellowstone, which is one of the most watched shows on the planet and spawned equally successful spinoffs like 1883 and 1923.

The company has also dabbled in true stories, thanks to limited series like Waco: The Aftermath, and George and Tammy.

Now 101 Studios is teaming up with MTV Entertainment to make a show about a notorious case that remains unsolved.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 101 and MTV are developing a limited series about the death of JonBenet Ramsey.

Writers Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach sold the drama to both studios, while Richard LaGravenese – whose previous credits include Beautiful Creatures and Behind the Candelabra – will serve as showrunner.

Ramsey was a six-year-old beauty pageant contestant who was found dead in the basement of her Colorado home in 1996. The investigation became a tabloid sensation, and while the girl’s parents became suspects – as did JonBenet’s brother, who was nine at the time – no one was ever charged with the crime. Meaning the case remains unsolved to this day.

According to the show’s official synopsis, the series will “detail the mysterious death and the surrounding media frenzy in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, a case that captivated an entire nation and left us with more questions than answers.”

The as-yet-untitled drama doesn’t yet have a broadcast channel, so expect a bidding war for this one.
