WoW’s 10.2.5 patch finally allows players to obtain Lord Godfrey’s Old Spectacles as a cosmetic item after 13 years.

Godfrey’s Spectacles first appeared in World of Warcraft during 2010’s Cataclysm expansion. To the chagrin of players at the time, the item couldn’t be obtained and worn as a cosmetic item.

The collectible item has popped up again in the years since then, though users were still unable to use the spectacles for themselves.

That much has changed with the recent release of WoW’s 10.2.5 patch. This particular 0.5 update went live on Tuesday, January 16, and players have already figured out one of its secrets.

WoW users can fish out Lord Godfrey’s Old Spectacles

As spotted by WoWHead users and several content creators, 10.2.5 features a way for fans to finally unlock the Old Spectacles.

Anglers doing the Reclamation of Gilneas questline can take a break and test their skills in the waters of Gilneas. Reeling in the iconic spectacles of Lord Godfrey seems to be a matter of luck.

Some players have reported fishing them out after a few dozen casts; yet, others claim they didn’t earn the item until after more than 100 attempts. Notably, it’s not clear if players can retrieve the item before starting the Reclamation of Gilneas quest. Finishing the questline isn’t required, though.

WoW content creator Leyst shared a guide in the following post:

Undoubtedly, scores of World of Warcraft players will flock to the waters of Gilneas for their chance to reel in Lord Godfrey’s Old Spectacles. The blue-tinted glasses have remained an object an interest for well over a decade, after all.

Of course, Blizzard has much more planned for WoW in the year ahead. The mysterious 10.2.6 patch should launch sometime soon, followed by the rollout of Season 4 content. Blizzard plans to top off the year with The War Within expansion, which will introduce a new campaign, zones, and more.
