WoW Season of Discovery Phase Two STV PvP event details confirmed
Blizzard EntertainmentAfter the Battle for Ashenvale took center stage in the first phase of World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, Blizzard promised more was on the way in STV. Now, further details on what Phase Two’s flagship PvP activity will look like have been confirmed by the developer.
The Battle for Ashenvale was an entirely new direction for PvP in Classic World of Warcraft. Leaning into the experimentation at the center of Season of Discovery’s philosophy, this non-instanced activity had a bunch of unique features and mechanics for players to enjoy.
Though it came with some immediate issues at launch, the event gradually became a central focus for players. With the secrecy around the phases, not much was known about the next centerpiece activity, other than it would take place in Stranglethorn Vale and it would be very different from the previous offering.
Now, Blizzard has confirmed exactly what the STV PvP event will look like when it arrives on February 8
The Blood Moon rises over STV in Season of Discovery Phase Two
In a detailed post on the official World of Warcraft website, Blizzard confirmed the name of the new PvP event as “The Blood Moon.” As well as casting an eerie red mist over the entire zone, there is also an admittedly vague promise of “mayhem” across STV.
The developer also confirmed some specifics about how the event will function, including a major change from Ashenvale following immense amounts of player feedback. Specifically, the event will now take place every 3 hours, rather than between 2-3 hours as Ashenvale is.
One of the most interesting reveals is a new mechanic that will punish players who form raid groups in the activity. Lasting 30 minutes in total, The Blood Moon also rewards a new currency that can be traded for exciting rewards, including Epic gear and two new, faction agnostic mounts.
That’s all of the major reveals for the time being. The developer also confirmed that, alongside the new activity in STV, there will be general balancing for PvP between classes. With the next phase set to start soon, it won’t be long before we see how successful they have been.
